This one's for you, son: Cristiano Ronaldo sucks his thumb after scoring a goal during his team Real Madrid's match against AJ Auxerre in Madrid on Wednesday

It's not exactly the most conventional reaction after scoring a goal.

But footballer Cristiano Ronaldo went a little gaga on the pitch after hitting the back of the net - by sucking his thumb as his young son watched on.

The Real Madrid star saluted his pride and joy with the gesture during his team's match against AJ Auxerre on Wednesday.

Nice work, daddy: His baby son Cristiano Ronaldo Junior was watching on from the stalls as his father played

Six-month-old Cristiano Ronaldo Junior was being held by Jose Andrade, the boyfriend of Ronaldo's mother Dolores Aveiro.

And it appeared the Portuguese sportsman's good luck charm paid off, as his team went on to defeat AJ Auxerre 4-0 during the Champions League game.

Ronaldo, who dates Russian model Irina Shayk, announced that he had become a father on Facebook and Twitter this summer.

He shocked fans when he revealed he had become a father to Cristiano Ronaldo Jnr on June 17 to an un-named American mother.

He said he was in 'full custody' of the baby, which is being cared for by his mother Dolores, 55, and sisters Katia, 33, and Elma, 35.

Romantic getaway: Britney Spears and boyfriend Jason Trawick stare out at the view as they enjoy a trip to Mexico for the singer's birthday

If this is a woman whose relationship has taken a nasty turn, then Britney Spears sure knows how to put on a brave face.

The pop star was snapped looking content as she enjoyed a romantic break with Jason Trawick for her birthday.

And the couple looked closer than ever as they posed for pictures at a private villa in Mexico.

Britney was celebrating her 29th birthday on December 2 and she and Trawick, 39, jetted off for a long weekend at a private $5,000 a night villa in the Conchas Chinas resort.

And the couple, who have been dating for a year, appeared to have shrugged off the allegations that Trawick had physically abused her, made by Star Magazine in a report based on an interview with Britney's childhood friend, Jason Alexander, who she married briefly for 55 hours back in 2004.

The report alleged that Britney had accused Trawick, who was also her former manager, of hitting her, telling Alexander 'he beat on me' in recorded evidence of telephone conversations between the two.

Watching the world go by: Trawick points something out to Britney, who looked a little tense next to her beau

Britney's reps furiously denied the allegations and said that Trawick has 'never laid a hand on Britney'.

She even took to her Twitter account to hit out at the reports and wrote: 'Star Magazine, Radar Online, Jason Alexander and the rest of you liars, Ya'll can kiss my lily white southern Louisiana ass!'

But despite their united front, it looked as though the incident was still playing on Britney's mind.

Away from prying eyes: The swimming pool and terrace at Britney and Trawick's private villa

Even though she smiled for the posed shots and looked happy to be by her boyfriend's side, she looked like her thoughts were elsewhere.

And her body language looked stiff and distant in the picture of them lounging on poolside chairs.

But a source close to the couple said they shrugged off the allegations and added: 'They did not allow it to get them down.'

And Britney declared that her birthday break - during which Trawick, 39, surprised the singer with a red-velvet cake shipped from Los Angeles - was 'amazing'.

She said: 'My birthday weekend away with Jason was amazing. Best birthday of my life!'

Wowing the judges: Kara Tointon and her dance partner Artem Chigvintsev dancing the Viennese Waltz during last night's Strictly Come Dancing semi-final opening night for which they scored 39 out of 40

Former EastEnders star Kara Tointon will start tomorrow night's Strictly Come Dancing at the top of the leader board after impressing the judges with her Viennese waltz.

The actress was one point off a perfect score tonight after judge Bruno Tonioli said her dance was a 'work of art' in the first of the weekend's two semi-finals.

Tointon also received top marks for winning the Strictly swing-a-thon, which involved all five remaining couples dancing at the same time in a knock-out dance-off.

Underdog Gavin Henson was bottom of the judges' leader board by the end of the show after he was criticised for lacking rhythm in his samba.

Tonioli said: 'I still feel you don't quite connect with the music all the way.'

But Craig Revel Horwood quipped: 'The good thing is the rotation in the hips was well worth the 297.5 hours you have been rehearsing over the series.'

Lady in red: Pamela Stephenson donned fishnets as she and her dance partner James Jordan performed the Paso Doble

Sultry: The pair received a 35 points for their efforts, securing them second place after the group dance

Pamela Stephenson and her partner James Jordon earned a respectable 35 out of 40 for their paso doble, putting them in second place after the group dance.

Alesha Dixon said: 'It was dramatic, fast, you were determined, brilliantly controlled and you have maintained your standard from last week.'

Rival male contenders Scott Maslen and Matt Baker both fell from their high standards and drew criticism from the judges.

Best foot forward: Gavin Henson and Katya Virshilas came bottom of the scoreboard and was criticised for lacking rhythm while, right, Scott Maslen and Natalie Lowe performed the Argentine tango

After his dramatic Argentine tango with partner Natalie Lowe, Len Goodman told Maslen: 'I didn't get that feeling there was that sort of connection between the two of you.'

But Tonioli defended the pair, saying: 'I think I actually got it, Scott, because that was played like a film noir. It was very intense.'

The pair were given a score of 33 for their first dance and were the second couple to be knocked out of the swing-a-thon.

Slipping standards: Matt Baker and Aliona Vilani were second from bottom, receiving 28 points for their salsa

But the judges' harshest words came for Countryfile presenter Matt Baker, who performed a salsa with Aliona Vilani.

Goodman was clearly not impressed and said: 'You have been so good, your standard has been so high, you've been consistent but this was not that good.'

Tonioli said Baker had 'over-worked it' while Revel Horwood said: 'The whole thing was just a bit insipid.'

All together now: The five remaining contestants performed swing-a-thon which

involved all the couples dancing at the same time in a knock-out dance-off
The 32-year-old looked emotional and disappointed when the judges gave him his lowest score of the competition with just 28 out of 40.

All of the couples will dance again tomorrow night before two couples are eliminated in Sunday's results show.

The remaining three couples will then battle it out in the grand final on Saturday, December 18.

The judges decide who to boot off next during the swing-a-thon, from left Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli

Disappointed dad: Miley Cyrus was caught on camera smoking a bong just days after her 18th birthday, which has left her father Billy Ray 'so sad'

Billy Ray Cyrus today admitted he has been left bitterly disappointed over a video which shows his daughter Miley smoking a bong.

The country singer, who is in the throes of a divorce from wife Tish, took to Twitter today to address the tape, which captures the 18-year-old giggling uncontrollably after taking a hit on the pipe with friends.

'Sorry guys,' he wrote to his fans this afternoon, providing the first official comment on the incident. 'I had no idea.

'I'm so sad,' he continued. 'There is much beyond my control right now.'

The video was shot at her home near Los Angeles, California, five days after she turned 18 on November 23.

But sources insist the pipe wasn't filled with marijuana.

Instead, she is said to have been smoking salvia, a powerful hallucinogenic herb.
It is legally available for sale in California - where the video was shot - and in other states in America.

In the tape, which was posted on celebrity website TMZ, a male friend lights the plastic pipe and she starts to inhale.

Message to fans: The country singer took to Twitter after watching the video of his daughter

He is seen telling her: 'Take all of that in.'

She pauses briefly before swallowing more of the smoke. The singer then turns to camera and laughs: 'OK, I'm about to lose it now.'

A female friend advises: 'Just lie down.'

Moments later Miley says: '[I'm] having a little bit of a bad trip.'
She then jerks upright when she sees something across the room and asks: 'Is that a f***ing Liam lookalike or what the hell is that? Is that my boyfriend?

'Oh my God, he looks so much like him. Is that me tripping?'

She then laughs for almost a minute while talking nonsense.

The girl videotaping her says: 'You're gonna sh*t a brick when you see this.'

The hit Come Down by rockers Bush plays in the background as the party continues.
Celebrity website TMZ.com reports: 'The smoke filling the bong is a natural herb called salvia which has psychedelic qualities.'

Last month Miley told MTV News that she was planning 'a fun party' for her birthday.
TMZ reports that the clip was shot by a pal - but later stolen.

A source said: 'Someone stole or copied the video from that friend's camera.'
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the Hannah Montana star has purchased a $1.8million waterfront condo in Miami, Florida.

The mansion is situated in north west Florida's Panhandle area and looks out onto the emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Finalist: She's favourite for the chop first this weekend but Cowell believes Cher Lloyd, with her combative attitude, is the face of the future

The people who have the honour of working with Cher Lloyd day by day call her ‘Cheryl’s pet piranha’. They joke behind her back that she looks like a perpetually cross little troll.

Stories of her explosive temper and fearless pursuit of victory at all costs are legion, and audiences have noticed that the 17-year-old is not exactly the fragile, likeable girl-next-door she first seemed to be. She has gone from being the bookies’ favourite to being odds-on to come fourth out of the four finalists when the X Factor reaches its climax this weekend.

Cher’s self-belief seems to be plastered on as thickly as her make-up, but does the fame she craves still beckon? Or will she soon be returning to the obscurity of her small bedroom in Malvern, Worcestershire, with its leopard-print duvet cover, vinyl floor and yellow curtains?

The row over the sing-off on Sunday, which some viewers thought fixed the results in her favour at the expense of supermarket worker Mary Byrne, has made this controversial contestant wildly unpopular. Hate mail has arrived at her parents’ house, including, they say, a Jiffy bag containing a plastic skeleton as some form of warning.

Mini-me: Cher with mentor Cheryl Cole at a press conference in London on Thursday

However graceless her behaviour may have been, this has been deeply unpleasant and upsetting. Her jobless father, Darren, says: ‘Cher is not going to let a few idiots destroy her dream.’

Her mother, Dina, loyally says: ‘It hit her so hard when her fans forgot to vote.’
But did they really just forget – or is she no longer as popular as she was?

The trouble with Cher seems to be that she is one of those people who is at the centre of every drama, good or bad.

Yesterday, an old schoolmate, who didn’t want to be named for fear of reprisals, said Cher was a fame-seeking bully.

Another claimed that some of Cher’s family beat her unconscious after she referred to Cher’s gipsy roots.

Cher was born in 1993 to gardener Darren Lloyd and his teenage girlfriend Diane ‘Dina’ Smith, who are about to celebrate 20 years together. Cher is the eldest child; they also have Joshua, 15, Sophie, 14, and Rosie, 12.

Her parents were married two years after Rosie’s birth and the family lives in a red-brick housing association terrace on £200-a-week benefits. Darren claims incapacity benefit and Dina describes herself as his full-time carer. ‘We’re on a shoestring,’ shrugs Darren.

Doubleact: Cole joined Cher on stage as she performed in her home town of Malvern, Worcestershire this week

Cher’s gipsy roots come from Dina’s mum, Liz, a Romany gipsy who was born in a wagon and raised her children on the road. Her family sold pegs and scrap metal. Liz moved into council accommodation in Malvern when Dina was 11 after several cold winters.

Cher was born when Dina was only 19 and, after a few months, Dina and Darren bought a caravan and a pick-up and tried out the travelling lifestyle for themselves in Wales.

Cher’s uncle Jessy Smith says that times were hard — that the family lived in fear of having a brick thrown through their windows by locals who did not want them around. After a year, they moved back in with Liz, and later into a flat in Malvern.

Ready for the big night: Cher arriving for sound check on Friday afternoon at the X Factor studios and, right, her father Darren

It was obvious from the time that she could talk, that little Cher was a singer.

Aged eight, she took the starring role in a concert at her primary school. Darren’s parents started to pay for singing lessons for Cher, and a drama coach.

When she was ten, Cher was treated to a session in a recording studio and laid down her own CD of Westlife covers — an expensive treat, you might think, for such a young girl.

Traveller past: Cher’s gipsy roots come from her mother Dina’s side of the family, pictured here together

She entered auditions for the X Factor in 2007, singing big ballads, but was rejected. At around this time, Cher was suspended from The Chase secondary school for an incident in which she pulled another pupil’s hair. Cher admits that she has done things of which she is ashamed.

Her family are well-known locally as the ‘Malvern Mafia’, and one former pupil said: ‘There are so many of her family at the school and in the local area, you can’t say anything about them. They look out for each other and some happily use violence against anybody they don’t like.’

Even Cher herself said last week, after being booed: ‘I’m protected by tough people.’

When an uncle, Edward Smith, known as Boo Boo, died in September of a methadone overdose, hundreds of his relatives lined the street for his funeral — and Cher paid tribute herself by singing Stay on the X Factor in Halloween week.

A neighbour, who again does not wish to be identified, says: ‘It seems to me the parents see Cher as a cash cow.

Neither of them work and they are banking on Cher being a success.’

That surely seems a harsh assessment. However, it is true that Darren, 37, has already tried to cash in on her brush with fame. He has been selling signed pictures of her on eBay at £25.

An affable man, his front room boasts a massive 72-inch TV and Sky box which suggest that money is perhaps not that tight after all. The pair are said to be already house-hunting for a new property.

But not everyone is convinced of Cher’s vocal ability, and a host of detractors say she has an aggressive attitude which makes her unpleasant to work with.

Cheryl Cole, however, is enamoured of her mini-me, and arch-manipulator Simon Cowell is a huge fan and clearly believes that this unusual young lady, with her combative attitude, is the face of the future.

Ski style: Cheryl Cole looked ready for the slopes in a white furry headband as she arrived for rehearsals yesterday at the X Factor studios

She looks like she’s kitted out to release a festive record of her own.

But Cheryl Cole was more concerned yesterday with ensuring one of her acts gets the chance to release a Christmas No.1 by winning this weekend’s X Factor final.

Just hours after she reminded fans that the competition was ‘a talent show, not a catwalk show’, the 27-year-old turned up at rehearsals in a red leather jacket and large white fluffy headband, resembling a mini-Santa Claus.

The tension at the show’s studios was ratcheting up, despite Miss Cole’s fellow judge Simon Cowell claiming he could hand all four finalists a record deal.

The X Factor chief admitted it was a ‘possibility’ he may give contracts to his act, One Direction, as well as to Cheryl’s two girls, Cher Lloyd and Rebecca Ferguson, and Matt Cardle, mentored by Dannii Minogue.

At the end of the last series, Cowell signed up only two acts, winner Joe McElderry and runner-up Olly Murs.

The year before, he just signed winner Alexandra Burke, while runners-up JLS were signed to Epic and Sony.

Cowell said: ‘I haven’t made a decision yet on whether I will give all finalists a record deal. The only person who is guaranteed one is the winner. But it is definitely a possibility.

‘I will just have to see how they perform on Saturday. Seriously.’

This year’s final, to take place over tonight and tomorrow, is expected to reel in 21million viewers, a record for a British talent show.

Mature mentor: The 27-year-old is clearly feeling confident enough to joke around ahead of this weekend's final

Purple Patch: Cher and Rebecca were matching as they arrived to prepare for the final showdown

Cowell has ordered the four remaining finalists to put in extra hours this week as he is said to be disappointed at the standard of last week’s performances.

He was also said to be giving a lot of advice to Cher, to the apparent irritation of her mentor Miss Cole, who called him and told him to stay away from the 17-year-old as she does not want him to take any credit for her performance.

Miss Minogue also confirmed that odds-on favourite Matt was unable to finish his rehearsals due to a throat infection and was worried he might not be able to sing. Matt himself admitted: ‘It would be a complete disaster, and it could happen.

‘I’ll sing it the best I can on the night. This has definitely been my worst moment on the show.’

Tonight’s programme will include each act duetting with a celebrity: One Direction will perform with Robbie Williams, Rebecca with Christina Aguilera, Cher with Will.i.Am and Matt with Rihanna.

One person will be evicted from tonight’s show with a second finalist ousted half-way through tomorrow night’s programme.

Reunion: Katie Waissel and Treyc Cohen were spotted arriving for the finale rehearsals today

The two remaining acts will then battle it out to be crowned the X Factor’s 2010 winner and win a £1million recording deal.

Matt is the 5/6 favourite to win with bookmakers, while One Direction are put at 9/4, Rebecca has odds of 5/2 and Cher is at 20/1.

The finalists were joined at the studios today by evicted contestants including Katie Waissel, Treyc Cohen and Aiden Grimshaw.

Aiden, who posed for photos with fans outside the Fountain Studios, is backing his good friend Matt all the way, telling his Twitter fans today: 'Matt to win!'

The boys are back: (L-R) Aiden, Wagner (supporting Rebecca) and John were all at the studios

Controversial Katie Waissel tweeted en route: 'Back to Wembley guys and gals.'

But the 24-year-old is clearly already looking towards life post-X Factor, telling her followers: 'Can't wait to get writing again!! I'm feeling so inspired!'

And while Katie has her mind on other matters, other ousted contestants are less worried about answering to their minders.

Paije Richardson was laid back about attending rehearsals, writing: 'Kinda gonna be late oh well.'

Now that the finale duets have been announced, speculation is buzzing over what songs the contestants will be singing with their artists.

'Tomorrow is the big day, totally super excited, buzzing and a little bit nervous all in one xx I can't wait to do the duet live!!' Rebecca wrote on her Twitter today.

Confident: Harry, Liam and Louis of One Direction are as 'prepared as they can be', according to mentor Simon

While Matt appears thrilled over his pairing with Rihanna - writing on Twitter that he was 'stupidly excited,' speculation is rife over which song he will attempt with the singer.

Contestants traditionally sing one of the artists' hit tracks, but most of Rihanna's single have involved rap collaborations - something quite at odds with Cardle's style.

Surprise guest performers are also expected on Sunday night.

Cowell had been in talks with iconic superstar Prince to appear on the final, his demands were said to be ‘outrageous’.

Tense: Matt Cardle, whose alleged dressing room romp with an X Factor make-up artist was front page news today, looked stern as he arrived
