Nominated: Colin Firth has been nominated for a Bafta award for Leading Actor for his role in The King's Speech

Following on from his triumph at the Golden Globes, Colin Firth looks set to receive another accolade for his performance of George VI in The King's Speech.

The critically acclaimed film, which sees Firth star as the stammering monarch, has been nominated for 14 BAFTA awards including Leading Actor for Firth, Best Film and Best Director for Tom Hooper.

And the latest award nomination for Firth, who took home the Best Actor award at the Globes this weekend, bodes well for the actor's predicted success at the Oscars later this year.

Meanwhile, British actor Pete Postlethwaite, who died earlier this month, has received a posthumous Supporting Actor nomination for his role in The Town.

Critically-acclaimed: Natalie Portman is among those nominated for the Leading Actress award for Black Swan

While Firth is hotly-tipped to be nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the film, he first faces tough competition from fellow Bafta nominees Javier Bardem in Biutiful, Jeff Bridges in True Grit, Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network and James Franco in 127 Hours for Leading Actor.

Speaking about The King's Speech's critical reception earlier this year, Firth said: 'It’s gratifying to get attention for a performance. I’m not going to wish any of it away, talk as big as you like. I welcome all of it.'

The Black Swan follows close behind The King's Speech in the number of Bafta nominations it received with 12 nods, including Best Actress for Natalie Portman.

Posthumous: Pete Postlethwaite, who died earlier this month, has been nominated for Supporting Actor for his role in The Town

Portman faces competition from Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, both nominated for The Kids Are All Right, Noomi Rapace for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Hailee Steinfeld for True Grit.

Thriller Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, follows with nine nominations, while rock-climbing drama 127 Hours and True Grit, the Coen brothers film, are in eight categories.

And The Social Network, a film about the founding of Facebook, received six nominations, including Best Actor for Jesse Eisenberg, and Best Film.

Other films nominated in the Best Film category include Black Swan, True Grit and Inception.

And Firth's fellow The King's Speech star, Helena Bonham Carter, is up for best supporting actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth in the film.

Famous faces: Dominic Cooper and Talulah Riley at Bafta in London where they announced the nominations for this year's Bafta Awards

Gearing up for the main event: St Trinian's actress Riley looked stunning in a geometric black and grey dress

Other Supporting Actress nominees are Amy Adams in The Fighter, Barbara Hershey in Black Swan, Lesley Manville in Another Year and Miranda Richardson for Made In Dagenham.

The King's Speech director Hooper competes against Danny Boyle for 127 Hours, Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan, Christopher Nolan for Black Swan and David Fincer for The Social Network in the Director category.

Meanwhile, Gemma Arterton and Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield have received nominations for the Orange Rising Star Award.

Nominated: The Social Network received a total of six nominations, including Leading Actor for Jesse Eisenberg

Speaking when the nominees for the category were announced earlier this month, Arterton said: 'I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be one of the shortlisted actors for the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award.

'2010 was an incredible year for me and to be recognised in this way by both my peers and the film-going public is amazing.

'I’m in very good company with the other actors who have been nominated, so it is a huge compliment to be considered to win this prestigious award.'

Home again: Colin Firth and his wife Livia arrived back at Heathrow Airport from Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, following his Golden Globes victory

It bodes well: Natalie Portman and Annette Bening, who are both nominated in the Leading Actress BAFTA category, took home Golden Globes at the weekend

Deputy Bafta Chairman David Parfitt said of the nominations: 'It's a very good year for the Brits. Even some of the American films that are nominated have British directors.

'British film has always punched above its weight in the film world. British film is always quite well represented in the Oscars as well as the Baftas.

'It's not that we have a particular bias. British film in general plays well around the world because it's very good.'

The nominations were announced this morning by actors Dominic Cooper and Tallulah Riley.

The February 13th ceremony, which will be hosted the fifth year by Jonathan Ross, is the biggest movie bash in the UK.

Last year, Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker won six BAFTAs, including Best Film - then repeated the feat at the Oscars.

Separate ways: Madonna and Tracy parted company in 2009 after three years

Madonna's former trainer Tracy Anderson has hit out at her decision to open her own fitness gym.

Anderson, 41, a personal trainer, is known for whipping actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston in to shape.

She also used to train Madonna but she isn't impressed that she has opened her first Hard Candy Fitness gym in Mexico.

Speaking to Britain's Star magazine, Anderson said: 'I knew she was going to be doing it.

'I could put my name on a gym and put them all over the world if I wanted to, but that would be irresponsible to what I do.

'I think we all know when a celebrity is going to do something that is in an industry that they're not in, they're just doing an endorsement and that's fine.

'But I think that you wouldn't want to go to a man who plays a doctor on TV to get prescribed something, would you?'

Not impressed: Tracy Anderson has hit out at Madonna's decision to open a chain of gyms

Madonna parted ways with Anderson, who was credited with sculpting Madonna's age-defying body, in 2009 after three years.

The decision to split comes shortly after the executive director of Madonna's Raising Malawi charity handed in his notice after falling in love with Tracy.

A source told the New York Post at the time: 'Madonna had grown tired of the baggage that Tracy always seemed to be carrying with her. Tracy had grown to be more of a distraction than anything else.'

When Madonna was asked if she had 'dropped' Tracy, the singer laughed in response.

The superfit trainer denied she had been fired, insisting she wanted to spend more time with her 11-year-old son Sam.

New business: Madonna opened Hard Candy Fitness in Mexico City last month

Tracy was introduced to Madonna in 2006 by Gwyneth Paltrow, who had met in the trainer's Los Angeles studio.

Madonna soon became a convert of Tracy's two hour, six days a week workouts and creditted her with putting her body 'back together' after her riding accident in 2005.

Earlier this year, Madonna gushed: 'Tracy Anderson is my saviour. After two Caesareans, three hernia operations and one riding accident that left me with 10 broken bones, she was the only one who could pull my body back together into one piece.'

Family day out: Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren take their little girl Honor to a friend's birthday party in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon

She was one of the very few Hollywood stars that gave the Golden Globes a miss on Sunday night.

So it was no wonder that Jessica Alba looked fresh-faced as she and husband Cash Warren took their little girl to a birthday party yesterday.

And in contrast to two-year-old Honor's pretty pink tutu dress, Jessica had dressed down for the occasion in jeans and a checked shirt.

She and Warren were snapped walking along a sunny street in Pacific Palisades, California yesterday afternoon with Honor sitting in Warren's arms.

And the tot looked like a little princess as she clung to her father, her hair tied up in a little ponytail as Warren carried a pom pom and the party invitation.

Jessica, 29, walked alongside her film producer husband of two years, 32, as they strolled to the birthday party, carrying a present for Honor's friend in her blue handbag

Dressed down: Jessica looked more the yummy mummy than the Hollywood star as she walked to the party

Her outfit was very casual, but she still looked like a yummy Hollywood mummy in her flared blue jeans, platform heels and yellow checked shirt.

Her hair was roughly tied back in a loose ponytail and she had gone fresh-faced, leaving the war paint at home.

Jessica has been spending lots of quality time with her daughter recently since she finished her promotional work for her recently release movie Meet The Parents: Little Fockers.

Doting daddy: Cash carries his little girl to the party

We got everything? Cash checks that Jessica - who is pulling a funny face - has collected everything from the car

She also recently finish filming Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World, which is released this summer.

Wanting to spend some time as a normal family with Cash and Honor may also be why she missed Sunday night's Golden Globes, apart from the fact she wasn't nominated for anything.

She has given the glitz and glamour of Hollywood a miss in recent months, although she did get her glam on to attend the the Little Fockers premiere in New York last month.

Bag it: Burberry Prorsum's autumn/winter 2011 campaign in Milan showed many of the models wearing man-bags

Forget the It-bag, it's now the man bag helping fashion brands boost profits.

Burberry has reported a 27 per cent rise in sales in part due to the trendy piece.

And it seems the item made a popular gift choice in the run up to Christmas.

The totes, selling for between £295 and £895, have proved particularly popular with Chinese and Asian shoppers.

Chief financial officer Stacey Cartwright said: 'In China and the rest of Asia — where Burberry has a big fan base — men’s accessories are a huge market'.

The latest menswear collection features brightly-coloured bags with Sixties-style duffel coats and transparent ponchos and was unveiled in Milan on Saturday.

Total sales in the three months to the end of December hit £480 million, meaning Burberry expects annual profits to come in at the top end of City forecasts.

Star: Harry Potter actress Emma Watson, the former model for Burberry helped boost profits when she was announced as the face of the brand in 2009

Analysts are pencilling in pre-tax profits of almost £290 million for the 12 months to the end of March.

Cartwright said its stores in the UK and on the east coast of the US suffered during the snow, but she was 'delighted' with the performance of London’s stores where almost a third of customers come from China.

Shoppers from the Middle East, Russia, the rest of Europe and Brazil also helped to drive up sales.

What this little thing? Katie shows off the bandage on her left wrist, where she has had a new tattoo but remained coy about the design

Following in the footsteps of fellow X Factor reject Cher Lloyd she has indulged in her tattoo habit, yet again.

And as the ink was still drying Katie Waissel was showing off her new body art, well the bandage at least, in London, as Cher was living it up in L.A.

The latest design brings the grand total of her tattoos to eight, just ahead of Cher’s five.

New ink: Katie's pulled up the sleeve of her cape to reveal the bandage on her wrist through which the new tattoo is seen but the design is not visible

And when the 17-year-old unveiled two new etchings as she jetted out to America last week Katie,24, seemed quick to follow suit.

Although her new tattoo was covered by a bandage, Katie was quick to draw attention to it as she held her hand to her head and pulled her cape sleeve up to reveal the new addition to her body.

The aspiring singer has been coy about the small design which according to sources took around half an hour to complete at the Frith Street tattoo parlour in Soho.

Pleased : Katie emerged from the tattoo parlour with a smile on her face

Worlds apart: As Katie got a tattoo in London Cher has been living it up in L.A.

She posted on Twitter: ‘I now have 8 tattoos hehe ;) x
Despite a number of reinventions, including dying her hair back to blonde, to try to gain a following Katie seems to be struggling to make a real name for herself and is danger of fading into obscurity alongside a long list of X Factor contestants.

And to add insult to injury as Katie was getting inked in London, Cher Lloyd has been living it up in America meeting and working with a number of well-known producers.

First the Cheryl Cole lookalike visited Maimi where she spent time with hit maker RedOne before jetting off to L.A. where she has been working with Kevin Rudolf and dining with gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

But it’s not all bad news for Katie who will be taking to the stage along with the fellow rejects for the X Factor tour which kicks off next month in Birmingham.

Dinner date: Frankie Sandford was first seen with Wayne Bridge earlier this month after they had enjoyed a romantic lunch

They've been seen together several times in recent weeks, quickly establishing themselves as the next big pop star-footballer coupling.

But now it looks as if things may be getting serious between The Saturdays' Frankie Sandford and Manchester City footballer Wayne Bridge.

The 22-year-old pop star took Wayne, 30, to dinner with her parents on Monday night, at Hakkasan restaurant in Central London.

Clearly Wayne was keen to impress Frankie's mother and father Kevin and Julie with the choice of restaurant.

Hakkasan, which has branches in Mayfair and Hanway Street in central London, is one of only a handful of Chinese restaurants to be awarded a Michelin star. It was given the accolade in 2003.

Frankie - who has reverted back to being a brunette after briefly turning blonde last month - was stylishly dressed for dinner in a short black dress teamed with black shoes and an animal print belt.

The big meet: Frankie and Wayne were later seen leaving Hakkasan restaurant in central London after having dinner with her parents

Wayne, meanwhile, opted for a more casual look of brown jacket and faded jeans.

And rather than relying on her cab driver father Kevin for a lift home this time, Frankie went off in Wayne's car after they left the restaurant.

The pair were first spotted together earlier this month picking up a DVD from a Blockbuster rental store.

All dressed up: Frankie looked stylish for her date in a black dress and animal print belt

Who's driving? After dinner Frankie and Wayne headed off in the footballer's car

An onlooker described them as looking 'completely smitten' and 'very touchy-feely'.
A few days later they were seen together in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, where Wayne has a £2m home.

The couple enjoyed a romantic pub lunch together before walking back hand in hand to Wayne's mansion.

Family gathering: Frankie's mum Julie Sandford was one of the people who joined Frankie and her new beau at Hakkasan

The singer's burgeoning relationship comes less than two months after she dumped ex-boyfriend Dougie Poynter who she shared a North London flat with.

The Essex-native and McFly bassist, 23, first split in March last year after 20 months together, but reunited a few weeks later, before breaking up again in late November.

Poynter has since admitted he was 'gutted' by the break-up, calling it 'totally unexpected'.

And dad came too: Kevin Sandford (background), Frankie's cab driver father, took the night off from his taxi to join the gathering

Frankie celebrated her 22nd birthday over the weekend with a party at Chinawhite in London, attended by bandmates Vanessa White, Una Healy and Rochelle Wiseman - although Mollie King was unable to attend due to a knee injury.

The band have also been busy rehearsing ahead of their tour which begins in February.

The picture that broke the camel's back: Katie Price hit the roof when she saw this snap of Alex Reid teaching her son Junior to fight - against her specific wishes

They've both admitted their 11-month marriage is on the rocks, but Alex Reid is determined he and wife Katie Price still have a chance.

The cagefighter said he is still wearing his wedding ring and is optimistic they can overcome their problems.

Reid, 35, also hit out at reports he had sold photographs of him teaching his stepson Junior to fight, insisting he is supporting the model's wish to withdraw her three children from the limelight.

Ringless: Price wasn't wearing her wedding ring as she touted her KP Equestrian and baby range in Essex on January 8

He tells the new issue of Star magazine: 'I’m still wearing my wedding ring – maybe I’m a hopeless romantic, but there you go… I want to work on our marriage.

'Maybe I am an optimist, but I believe in doing the honourable thing.'

Addressing reports that Price, 32, was furious over seeing photos of Reid with Junior, five, at the gym, he insisted: 'Sadly someone sold the photo.

'I still maintain strong support for Katie in her wish to keep the kids out of the limelight.'

The model was said to be so furious, she ordered Reid to leave their Sussex home once and for all.

When asked what had gone wrong with the couple's relationship, he admitted: 'Despite us both being busy with other things in our life, I have always made time for my wife.

Given the boot: Reid, seen here leaving a gym in west London on Saturday evening, has been told to pack his bags once and for all

'I would sacrifice anything to spend time with her. She has always been my priority.'

The Daily Star reported yesterday that she saw red when she saw the pictures as she specifically told Alex not to teach her son to fight as she hated the idea of him being in the ring.

And lately she has been careful to keep her children - Junior; Princess, three and eight-year-old Harvey, out of the spotlight and instructed Alex not to do anything to expose them.

Pit stop! Britney Spears stopped at a local McDonalds yesterday with her boyfriend Jason Trawick and sons Sean Preston and Jayden James

Her appearance seems to go from neat and clean to unkempt and dishevelled on a daily basis.

And while, for once, her hair extensions were not on show, Britney Spears still managed to messy once again as she made a brief stop at a local McDonalds yesterday.

The singer was accompanied by boyfriend Jason Trawick and her sons Sean Preston, five, and Jayden James, four.

Unkempt: Britney looks the opposite of together in an unflattering white shirt

Wearing a tight white ruffled shirt and blue jeans, Britney looked bloated and tired as she and her children nipped inside to use the restroom.

The Toxic star has been busy in the dance studio getting ready to shoot the music video for new single Don't Hold It Against Me, which was released last week.

The song shot to the top of the iTunes chart and has received compliments from Miley Cyrus as well as Kanye West who made a joke post about it on Twitter.

Tired? Britney has been busy in the dance studio in preparation for the music video to new single Don't Hold It Against Me

He said: 'I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL.'

The tweet poked fun at his now infamous interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs.

But the comment did not go down well with Britney's camp, who responded by posting a message in response on her own Twitter.

'Thanks for "letting" us be #1. Much appreciated.... -Adam Leber, Manager.'

Busy: Britney announced this month that her new album will be released in March

Kanye later deleted it his original comment, perhaps having second thoughts about the whole thing.

He said: 'I thought LOL signified a joke… I didn’t get the 2011 LOL doesn’t signify a joke anymore memo… LOL or something else I guess.'

Hopefully Britney will clean her act up in time for her album launch in March.

It was only last week that Britney gave photographers a clear view of her extensions as she headed to a dance studio in West Hollywood.

Stepfather to be? Trawick is very hands-on with Britney's sons Sean and Jayden

It was claimed recently celebrity hairstylist Kim Vo has now taken charge of Britney's hair, and is trying desperately to fix the damage her constant extensions have caused.

A source told gossip website UsMagazine.com: 'He mentioned how often she changes her mind about it.

'This week she wants it to her bottom, and two weeks later they'll probably cut it again. Vo wasn't responsible for her hair over the last few years but is trying to fix it now!'

Close to the knuckle: Host Ricky Gervais left the Golden Globes audience gasping as he made an outrageous joke about the sexuality of an unnamed Scientologist actor

Ricky Gervais today insisted he had not been carpeted at the Golden Globes after subjecting a room full of speechless American stars to lewd jibes at last night's ceremony.

He vanished from the stage in the middle of the awards show, leading to speculation that he had been carpeted. Viewers said that when he returned some time later he looked subdued.

A spokesperson for the comedian today called rumours he was chastised by bosses 'utter rubbish' fueled by 'Twitter speculation.'

Gervais insists the the mood backstage was 'great' and his extended time away from the camera was planned.

'I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap,' Gervais told the New York Daily News via email.

Tickled: Johnny Depp, a self-declared Anglophile, laughed at Gervais's dig about him and his latest film The Tourist

'This is because I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for. (And who I knew had a good sense of humour). Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great.'

Well, not everyone. Today the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association blasted the comedian for his routine, saying he had 'crossed the line' with some of his jokes.

It's unclear if HFPA President Philip Berk will support Gervais coming back next year for a third time.

'Some of the things he said were totally unacceptable,' he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Berk added: 'He definitely crossed the line. And some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that's Ricky. Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones.'

But Berk also dismissed claims that the British comic was either fired or told off when he was missing for an hour during the show.

He dismissed those rumours as being 'ridiculous.'

He says: 'He was never called on the carpet, or given a warning or anything else.'
Of course, Berk had earlier been on the receiving end of one of Gervais' jibes.

The comedian announced that Eva Longoria have 'the daunting task' of introducing Berk, the association's president.
'That's nothing,' Gervais added. 'I just had to help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in.'

Before offering his greetings to the audience, Berk, wearing a tight smile, said: 'Ricky, next time you want me to help you qualify your movie, go to another guy.'

During the three-hour ceremony the 49-year-old insulted just about everyone in the film industry.

Taking a pop at Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp for their film The Tourist, he said: ‘Seems like everything this year was three-dimensional. Except the characters in The Tourist.

Just smile, darling: Gervais also took a pop at Angelina Jolie, seen here with Brad Pitt, as he slated her latest film The Tourist

‘I tell you what, I’m jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven’t even seen The Tourist. Who has?’

Gervais also took a dig at the Hollywood Foreign Press, who were the evening's hosts, for nominating Burlesque after being bribed with tickets to a Cher concert.

He added that it wasn't a halfway decent bribe anyway because no one has wanted to go to a Cher concert since 1975.

Sense of humour failure: Robert Downey Jnr didn't take too kindly to Gervais's wisecracks and hit out at the comedian as he presented an award

To gasps from the Beverly Hills audience, he referred to one film featuring ‘two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay, so the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists then’.

Gervais added: 'My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke.'

Insulted: Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Philip Berk told Gervais to find someone else to qualify his movies

The comedian also said that Sex And The City 2 should have won the special effects award for ‘the team that airbrushed that poster’.

'Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of Bonanza.'

And he introduced Robert Downey Jr by saying: ‘Many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail.’

Sauntering on stage, Downey took a little bow, then quipped: 'Aside from the fact that it's been hugely mean-spirited, with mildly sinister undertones, I'd say the vibe of the show is pretty good so far, wouldn't you?'

Bruce Willis was unimpressed after Gervais referred to him as ‘Ashton Kutcher’s dad’. (Kutcher is married to Willis’s ex-wife, Demi Moore, and is stepfather to their three daughters.)

He walked on to stage and said pointedly: 'Some people get very lucky in Hollywood, don't they Ricky',

Gervais also let rip when he introduced Toy Story's Tim Allen and Tom Hanks.
He went into a lengthy list of all of Hanks's achievements and accolades over the years before adding: 'The other ... is Tim Allen.'

Hanks said: 'We can recall back when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian.'

And Allen added: 'Neither of which he is now.'

In on the act: Tom Hanks and Tim Allen took a pop at Gervais saying he was no longer fat - but also no longer funny

Troubled Two And A Half Men star Charlie Sheen was lampooned too.

'It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking,' Gervais began his monologue, sipping from a glass of what looked like beer.

'Or, as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast.'

As the ceremony continued, it became clear that Gervais had been absent from the stage for a long time. TV host Piers Morgan wrote on Twitter: ‘Gervais not seen for an hour now. What the hell happened.’

He wrote that when Gervais returned to the stage, he looked ‘haunted’.

The New York Times wrote: ‘It was Mr Gervais’s second chance to host the Golden Globes; he may not get a third.’

The Los Angeles Times said his jokes set 'a corrosive tone' for the night, while TV critic Mary McNamara said: 'The opposite of dull and deferential is not snotty and abusive.'

'It would not have been surprising to see a hook emerge suddenly stage left or to learn that the host had taken 'suddenly ill',' she added.

However, he did have some support, Entertainment Weekly's Ken Tucker had nothing but praise for him: 'Thanks once again to Ricky Gervais for bringing the sort of funny rudeness and effrontery... that make an awards show such as the Golden Globes engaging to watch.'

Genius: Sean 'Diddy' Combs and Andrew Garfield praised Gervais

High expectations: Ricky poses on the red carpet with his partner Jane Fallon before he went on to upset most of Hollywood

Gervais received support from rapper and actor Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who said he was 'really enjoying it' and that the comedian was 'doing an excellent job'.

Rising British actor Andrew Garfield admitted it had been a cringe-worthy performance: 'He's been terribly nasty and horribly rude and I think he's genius.'

Fellow Brit Christian Bale said he didn’t feel Gervais pushed the envelope enough and added: 'Thank God for comedians, they have the most important job. I hope he keeps going further!'

The comedian himself admitted he had not been asked back after the show. ‘That’s ominous, isn’t it? So I probably won’t be here next year.’

A big fan: Robert De Niro could be seen in hysterics at Gervais's comments
