High point: Oprah on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge today

Oprah Winfrey celebrated being named the most charitable celebrity by climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge today - with 249 other people.

The U.S. television host and best friend Gayle King joined the biggest ever group to climb to the top of the famous landmark.

Oprah is taking her talk show Australia for two special shows in its 25th and final season - and she took 300 U.S. audience members with her.

Don't look down: Oprah on top of the bridge - 249 others were up there at the same time

A massive party and fireworks display was put on for her during her visit before she launches her own network OWN next month.

And today the talk show queen topped The Giving Back Fund list after donating more than $40 million (£25.5m) to good causes, primarily through the Oprah Winfrey Foundation.

It helps causes including education and programs for women and children, according to a national philanthropic group.

Novelist Nora Roberts came second, donating $4.45 million (£12.7m) to the Nora Roberts Foundation to support literacy in underserved communities.

'There are many generous celebrities, but when you can top a list of celebrity philanthropists three out of four years, as Oprah has, that is saying something,' said Marc Pollick, president of The Giving Back Fund.

The contributions were made in 2009 - the most recent year that financial information was available.

The Giving Back Fund does not count pledges or promises to donate or donations to public charities, which are not publicly disclosed.

Disappointment: Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp's film The Tourist looks set to take less than $20m on its opening weekend

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp have bombed at the box office in their first ever film together.

Hollywood's hottest on-screen couple failed to grab the top spot at the US box office where The Tourist was set to take less than $20m on its opening weekend.

They were beaten into second place by The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

The third film made out of C.S. Lewis fantasy series was expected to take just over $30m to claim the top spot.

Despite the pulling power of Jolie and Depp, the thriller set in Venice, Italy, failed to attract moviegoers having received many poor reviews.

Movie experts said it took just over $6m on Friday and $7m on Saturday.

In comparison, the latest Harry Potter film took $125m on its opening weekend.

Hollywood blogger Nikkie Finke said the The Tourist, which cost $100m to make, underperformed to the 'point of desperation.'

Great expectations: It's the first time the two Hollywood stars had worked together on screen

Movie experts predict it will be pulled from US theatres in a matter of weeks with Hollywood studio Sony hoping it performs better overseas.

The Tourist was supposed to set the box office alight with the pairing of Depp and Jolie.

They are the two biggest names in Hollywood and their previous films have all performed spectacularly at the box office.

But The Tourist received scathing reviews with one saying the film crawls at a snail's pace.

Another reviewer wrote: 'Star power can cover up a multitude of shortcomings in a film. Turns out stupidity isn't one of them. Nor is a lack of chemistry when those stars are tossed into the same orbit.

'Throw in the feeling that they aren't really trying, but instead showed up for the mondo payday and the first-rate locations and you have... well, you have The Tourist.'

Depp and Jolie spent three months filming The Tourist in Venice creating mayhem as they were followed by paparazzi photographers.

In The Tourist Jolie plays the mysterious English girlfriend of a thief wanted for stealing millions from a British mobster.

As she flees Paris she meets an America maths teacher played by Depp on a train to Venice.

The pair end up on the run from the mobster's henchmen and British police as they race around the canals of Venice.

Impressive move: Katy Perry appeared to grow more pairs of arms as her dancers crouched behind her at the Miami Jingle Ball concert last night

Katy Perry pulled yet another kooky Christmas costume out of her stocking last night as she led the Jingle Ball concert to Florida.

The pop star dressed up as a thoroughly racy Mrs Claus outfit for the performance in Miami.

She has previously dressed up as a candy cane and a toy soldier for the festive tour, which has also stopped in New York and Los Angeles.

Her latest confection featured a red satin leotard with white fur trimmed plunging neckline and a flaring fur-trimmed skirt left open to reveal her trim figure.

Finishing off the look were white gloves, a fur-trimmed Santa hat and red lipstick to match.

But the 26-year-old wasn't all glitz and glamour - she wore comfortable workman's boots so she could easily move around the stage during her performance.

Mrs Claus: Katy performed in a festive Santa outfit at the concert

Then three Santas appeared to kneel and pay homage to the lovely Mrs Claus as she stood holding her microphone out to the audience.

The stage was festively decorated with giant snowflakes and a large Christmas tree.
The Mrs Claus costume appears to be a favourite look for the star, who performed at last year's annual Jingle Ball in a similar look.

Santas galore: Katy is surrounded by santas during the stage show

This year she was joined by American Idol winner Adam Lambert and Enrique Eglesias.
While Katy has been hard at work, her husband Russell Brand has been busy promoting his new film, The Tempest.

The comic appeared this week on the Late Late Show to promote the movie, which also stars Helen Mirren, where he instead got talking about his former life of promiscuity.

Russell, who married Katy in India in October, said: 'I was having sex with different women three, four, five times a day. In Ireland, nine in one evening.'

The 35-year-old added: 'The fame and kind of will that I had meant that, instead of taking someone for a date and then going to the pictures and then calling them, I was able to go, "Let's do sex right now!"'

Winter wonderland: Katy and her guitarist were surrounded by snowflakes and Christmas tree decorations

But according to Katy, he is very satisfied these days.

She said in an interview with Maxim this month: 'Like Ludacris rapped, "I'm a lady in the street and a freak in the bed."

'I can't rate myself, but if you ask Russell I'm sure he'd give me a ten out of ten.'
Katy said in the interview that her husband's promiscuous past is not an issue.

'He's made no secret of what his life was like before me, but that's then and this is the future.'

Perfect match? Selena Gomez at the Miami Jingle Ball last night while Justin Bieber performed at the Illinois Jingle Bash

'It was pancakes. Who doesn't like pancakes?' the Wizards of Waverly Place star told MTV News.

It looked like a match made in teen pop heaven, but Selena Gomez insists she's not in a romance with Justin Bieber.

The young singers sparked rumours last week after they were spotted having breakfast together at an IHop pancake restaurant in Philadelphia.

Onlookers said they were holding hands and looking 'cuddly' as they shared meal in a corner booth and they were photographed leaving the eatery arm-in-arm.

But the 18-year-old has denied love was in the air.

Close: Selena and Justin, pictured at the MTV Awards in September, have know each other for years

Selena claims it was merely a matter of being in the same place at the same time.
'We were both performing in the same place so we went and had pancakes together.' she added.

'That's all it is. All innocent.'

The pair, who were both on stage at different events last night, were also seen sharing the sweet treats before their appearance at the Jingle Ball in New York on Wednesday.

The stars have known each other for a number of years and Selena has previously said that they feel more like siblings.

'I feel like a big sister now, 'cause I want to protect him. So I'm always very cautious with him, but he is so talented and he's so sweet,' she has said. Now he's just become one of my good friends.'

The 16-year-old singer has also been linked to another Disney actress - Jasmine Villegas.

The That's So Raven star appeared on the video for Justin's smash hit Baby and the pair had a secret meeting in Atlanta late last month.

Justin was spotted kissing the brunette on her recent video shoot and in the back of a car back in September.

First Christmas together: Sandra Bullock and her son Louis attended a festive party in Santa Monica yesterday

It has been a year of incredible highs and lows for Sandra Bullock, but the actress is ending it on a very joyful note as she prepares to celebrate her first Christmas with baby Louis.

The 46-year-old actress and her son were seen getting into the festive spirit as they attended a party in Santa Monica yesterday.

She doted over the 11-month-old as she chatted with friends and at one point placed a Santa hat on his head.

Louis also took a pony ride under the watch of other guests, although he looked a little apprehensive as he sat in the saddle.

Party fun: Little Louis got in the saddle for a pony ride

He seemed much more comfortable on his mother's hip and the pair eventually headed home after a long day of fun.

Sandra, this year won her first Oscar for The Blind Side and also endured the breakup of her marriage to Jesse James, says her son is now her full focus.

'Louis's got the stage,' she said recently of her son, who she secretly adopted in January.

'No one understands the shift in priorities about having a child in your life that you are responsible for, until you have a child in your life.

Happy pair: Sandra and Louis will spend their first holiday season together

'It naturally shifts. It just shifted the first day I met him. It was like he'd been there the whole time, yet everything was different.'

There are rumours Sandra will reunite with Jesse over the holidays to celebrate Christmas together in Austin.

Sandra became very close to his three children Sunny, 7, Jesse Jr., 13, and Chandler, 16, during their marriage and wants Jesse to be involved in Louis' life.

'Sandra wants to make sure Louis grows up knowing Jesse’s children,' an insider told In Touch Weekly magazine, 'so she is willing to put the past behind her for the sake of the kids.'

All Night Long: Lionel Richie's Beverly Hills estate was transformed for daughter Nicole Richie and Joel Madden's wedding last night

She made her name alongside Paris Hilton in The Simple Life - now Nicole Richie is starting her new role in The Married Life.

The reality TV star wed Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden last night in front of around 130 guests at her father Lionel Richie's lavish Beverly Hills mansion.

The pair exchanged rings by jeweller Neil Lane during the winter-themed ceremony.

Happy couple: Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, pictured here last year, have two children and have been together four years

Singer Gwen Stefani, DJ Samantha Ronson, reality TV stars Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner are all said to have attended the affair, along with Nicole's godfather, music legend Quincy Jones.

Khloe, who has known the bride since childhood, tweeted from the ceremony: 'I love weddings!'

Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, who is pregnant, was spotted arriving at residence with husband Rodger Berman.

Rachel and Nicole had falling out in 2006 after severing their working relationship, but it's clear the pair are back on close terms.

The couple's 2-year-old daughter, Harlow, was the flower girl (they also have a son, Sparrow, 1) while Nicole's best friend Masha Gordon was chosen as maid of honour.

Joel's twin Benji attended, along with their brother Josh, a DJ, who tweeted in the early hours of this morning: 'The stuff of which memories are made.'

There was one guest who made a very big impression - the crowd was stunned to discover that a trained elephant called Tai was part of the nuptials.

And Run-DMC rapper Rev Run was said to have officiated at the ceremony.
'Joel and Nicole have looked up to Rev. Run, so they wanted him to officiate,' a wedding guest told Usmagazine.com.

The 46-year-old rapper, real name Joseph Simmons) is also a practicing minister.
'They both appreciate his family values and he is an inspiration for both. They both also respect his faith, too.'

Nicole is rumoured to have walked down the aisle in a $20,000 custom-made Marchesa gown, which she chose over a vintage Chanel frock.

Celebrity hairdresser Byron Williams of Byron & Tracey in Beverly Hills styled her locks.

'They wanted an Old Hollywood, glamorous feel to their wedding,' a source tells People magazine.

VIP guests: Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, who is pregnant with her first child, attended the ceremony with husband Rodger Berman

'Nicole wanted a memorable, elegant affair for only their closest friends and family on their special day.'

A vast team of caterers then toiled through the night in outside kitchens to keep the guests fed and watered as they partied into the early hours.

Lionel’s outdoor area had been transformed for the ceremony, with white chairs and tables and a source close to the project said that an impressive dance floor had been constructed over the pool.

'It’s kind of cool because people will be dancing on top of the water,' the insider noted.

Arrivals: Guests were dressed in suits and gowns for the black tie affair

Wedding squad: Caterers worked in an outdoor custom built kitchen

The couple are rumoured to have sold their wedding photos exclusively to a U.S. magazine for $100,000, which they will give to charity.

Kim Kardashian and Christina Aguilera were thought to have been invited to the ceremony, however Kim is currently in Miami while Christina is in London after appearing on The X Factor.

But there was another notable absence - Nicole's former best friend Paris Hilton did not make the guest list, say sources.

An insider revealed: 'Nicole's wedding will be super small, and a lot of people who have played a role in her life like Paris have been cut from the guest list.

Extravagant affair: Khloe Kardashian, Gwen Stefani and DJ Samantha Ronson are all said to have attended the nuptials

Gifts for the couple: Guests were seen arriving with presents for the pair
Earlier this year Nicole refused to talk about the rift between her and Paris Hilton - her one-time best friend.

The pair, pals since childhood, fell out in 2005. She told USA Today: 'I don't speak about her.'

Nicole and Joel, who have been together for four years, announced their engagement in February.

Her friends threw her a luxurious bachelorette party in Mexico in September.

Ender the road: Rugby star Gavin Henson, front, and EastEnders actor Scott Maslen, far, were eliminated from Strictly last night in a double eviction

Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson said his Strictly Come Dancing experience had helped him regain his 'energy and drive' today after he was kicked off the show.

EastEnders actor Scott Maslen was also hanging up his dancing boots after the semi-final double-elimination, describing the experience as possibly the best of his life.

Next week's final will now see actress Kara Tointon, Countryfile presenter Matt Baker and psychologist Pamela Stephenson compete for the glitterball trophy.

Henson is hoping he can transfer some of his fast footwork onto the rugby field as he focuses on re-building his sporting career.

The 28 year old, who had never danced before, even on a night out, said he was now having 'much more fun' and had even 'developed another side' of his brain.

Speaking on his way to rehearsals for tonight's group dance, he said: 'I'm a bit sad that it's over. It's taken over my life the last three months. It's been an awesome experience.

'I've outdone myself. I didn't really expect to get to the semi-finals. It was a big achievement just to get through the first week.

'The support I must have had out there was awesome. I couldn't believe it.

'I'm not sure what my downfall was. I gave it everything I've got. I worked really hard. I couldn't have done anything more.

'I'm competitive but as long as I know I've given everything I don't mind losing.'

He said before the show he would never hit the dancefloor on a night out 'even after a few drinks' but would 'stand at the bar and look cool'.

But he is now at ease strutting his stuff.

'It's transforming my nights out. It's much more fun,' he said.
Henson finished bottom of the leaderboard after the two semi-final shows at the weekend.

Last night the judges praised his efforts in a Viennese waltz with dance partner Katya Virshilas.

Head judge Len Goodman said: 'You've been the underdog over and over. You're my hero. You've come back strong.'

And then there were three: The pair just missed out on next week's final, leaving Matt Baker, Kara Tointon and Pamela Stephenson to battle it out for the glitterball trophy

And Bruno Tonioli said: 'Regardless what happens you should be proud.'

Henson said the six to seven hours of daily dance training was harder than his rugby regime.

'This is so much harder, it's about perfection. Dancing is more mentally draining. It's information overload.

'I've developed another side of my brain.'

Saying goodbye: Henson and hugs his dance partner Katya Virshilas after hearing the news in the results show

Last dance: Gavin and Katya and, right Scott and his dance partner Natalie Lowe performing in Saturday night's semi-final

He said he had received 'a little bit of stick' from his new teammates at Saracens but added: 'It's been easy to fit in.

The players have got something to talk to me about. They want to know all the gossip.
'There's been a little bit of mick-taking but I can take it.'

He is now going to put television to one side and focus on getting into the Welsh Six Nations side and looking ahead to the World Cup.

'I hadn't played rugby for nearly two years. It was a struggle injury-wise, for my body and form. I wasn't in a very positive place and I needed to sort that out.

Still in the running: Kara Tointon looked pretty in pink as she danced with Artem Chigvintsev

'But I've got my energy and my drive back now.'

He also hopes the show has helped the public to get to know him but he has not intention of giving up his well-publicised grooming.

'Everyone has had a chance now to see the real me. Whether they like me or not at least they got a better picture of me. Now they can make up their own minds.

'I take pride in what I look like. I've been like that since I was a kid. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.'

Maslen's Charleston last night with dance partner Natalie Lowe was described as 'cute' and 'quirky' but was not enough to save him from elimination after the public vote.

Top score: Pamela Stephenson and James Jordan were awarded full marks for their efforts on the dance floor and, right, Matt Baker and Aliona Vilani

The actor, 39, said: 'It's the best experience, maybe of my life.

'Such a learning curve to come in with no skill-set - a real challenge. To do it live - even more of a challenge.'

Next week's final will see the remaining contestants perform four routines.
In previous weeks the public vote has been added to the judges scores but this time the public will have the final say.

Henson said: 'It's going to be a hell of a competitive final.

'Kara's lovely. She should win it. She looks such a natural dancer. You can't tell which one's a professional.'

He praised his own dance partner, saying: 'I will miss her lots. Hopefully we will be still be friends. The work she has put in has been so inspiring.'
