My problem isn't necessarily with Apple, my grief is with carriers who have tied most of us in to 2 year fixed contracts. Whether this is due to Apple's insistence, or whether carriers have signed up to the 'yearly cycle' idea, there are thousands of us stuck in the middle here.

Any 3GS user who bought new and has a 2 year contract (usually because it was the most economical) now has a huge dilemma. Do we switch phones and get new contracts on different phones, or do we go Pay As You Go to cover those 3/4 (potentially more) months?

Ultimately, if happens, I'll end up going for the new BlackBerry Bold Touch (Dakota), just because I don't want to be strung along for a few months, racking up minutes/text/data costs. It'll be sad, but ultimately, its just a phone I guess...

NB: ALL OF THE ABOVE IS PREFACED BY AN 'IF THE RUMOUR HAPPENS'!

I don't see how anyone has a huge dilemma. If you're saying those that bought a 3GS on launch, didn't upgrade last year, and now are at the end of a 2 year have a "problem", that doesn't sound like much of a problem to me.

Call up AT&T and say your contract is up, you'd like to renew and buy a new iPhone which you qualify for, but you're not buying a new iPhone until iPhone 5 comes out. If they don't allow you a grace period until iPhone 5 is available, tell them you're gone, and that Verizon seems like a good option since AT&T doesn't want you for another 2 years.

The difference between public policy and what they can/will do for you when you're "threatening" to switch, is very different. The only time you have any leverage to get something you want out of AT&T is a once every two years opportunity when you're contract is up and you have the option of switching.

I hope Meroms end up in MBs by the end of this year

And this is a little off-topic, but is it too late to speculate a release date for any other products? Only thing I can speculate is that something might be released in/around September, because the Mac + iPod rebate ends September 16th, and if anyone recalls last year, the Nano was intro'd in September.

I think it's too early for updated MBs, but I wish there'd be some. Either that, or cheaper MBPs with Merom.

Good for you Marvel2. How about a review after you use it. Tstreete did a great one but another perspective is always welcomed.

BTW do you use Navigon? Did you get the Live Traffic update? Love to hear how they each or both worked with the kit.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Personally, I think that iP4 is the most aesthetically pleasing phone on the market. I'm not surprised to hear they will not change the design because the transition from 3G to 3Gs was similar.

The faster processor isn't necessarily a good enough reason for me to upgrade because the apps that I use regularly perform more than adequately on my iP4 (probably on 3G/3Gs models too). If I decide to start shooting more video (and editing it) or do other heavy lifting on my phone I will consider upgrading.

That being said, I think it is important for Apple to upgrade to a dual core processor, increase the memory, and make it capable of using at least one 4G network to compete with the latest Android based phones on the market.

I highly doubt this is the case. The iPhone still leads the forefront for iOS devices and will receive iOS 5 when it is released. The only way this works is if the release of iPhone 5 is in September and I don't see that happening any time soon.

How Do You Make A Yonah MBP Run @ 2.33GHz? You Don't. It's Merom Inside.

I see that you misunderstood the context of the 2.33Ghz but you are still incorrect. You can buy a 2.33Ghz Yonah today, its called the T2700. I know there are not any T2700's in a MBP but Apple could have done so if they wanted.

Now, back to your 1.67X Battery life…

Straight from a "Merom vs. Yonah" AnandTech article (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2808&p=15) released earlier today:

Here there's no difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo, which in the mobile world is important. If Intel isn't going to give us any more battery life, it had better not take any away.

In our final battery life test, the Core 2 Duo T7600 actually falls behind its Core Duo counterpart by 2 minutes, but the margin of error for battery life tests is usually at least 1%, so overall battery life is essentially identical.

    :)

Only in US. For the rest of the World (the northern part of it) summer starts on June 1st and ends on August 31st :)
Really? So we just disregard the ACTUAL start and end times of seasons now? June 21 to Sept 21 is summer.

The "actual start dates"? Season start and end dates have changed over time and cultures. The solstices used ro be Midsummer's Day and Midwinter's Day, not the start of Summer and the start of Winter.

While I don't care who sues who - in the end the laywers win.. and yes, Samsung UI is very similar to iPhone..

However, the iPhone GUI isn't new at all.

Take a look at this screen shot of the SE P910 UI, released well before iPhone.

    http://www.files32.com/images/handy_tools_2005_for_sony_ericsson-73554-thumb.gif

Conceptually, the UI is very similar - in that that you have:

    (1) application icons
    (2) Application short cuts ( at the top )
    (3) Power , strength and other status indicators etc ( at the bottom )

I'm sure there are many other examples of conceptual similar iPhone UIs that contain the same properties and behaviour and layout out ina similar fashion.

This will definitely be the first iteration of the iPhone that I will pass on. It's certainly not much of an upgrade from the iPhone 4.

This model promises to be one that many will pass on.

    I certainly will.

Even though it's already well known that it will have a better antenna to fix the antennagate issue that most everyone denied.

The lack of a fresh new look will keep me away, especially retaining the tiny screen. Seems like Apples coasting this time around.

A faster processor? Big deal, who needs it, a waste of money just to pump up Apples coffers.

A true disappointment, this one is. I was so eager to dump my antennagate special.

Apple is anticompetitive and should be shut down. By producing products customers want when others in the industry can't, they are forcing the competition out of business.

If Apple is not shut down, they should be forced to only sell the products designed by RIM and Google, while Google and Rim can build any Apple product they want. Apple also needs to be forced to fire their QC department. While they are at it, they might want to replace their marketing department with a bunch of rabid chimps. They might also be forced to purchase advertising for RIM.

Apples cash reserves also give them an unfair advantage. Perhaps they should give half their money to RIM. Perhaps Apple should design and build the products and sell them, however, RIM and Google would get the money.

Hmm, interesting. I'm not eligible since I didn't play in Intell's last game, but this looks like fun.

No, you mis-read, I meant you must have played in at least three games. Intell's last game is counted if you played in that one. I edited the part to hopefully make it more clear. When I wrote it, Intell's game wasn't over.

You've played in *way* more than three games, so you're in if you want.

There will be a free version of mobileme, if only to save people having to register for a free AIM account to video conference on the new iPhoneHD.

You know, this makes a ton of sense.

I would love to see an ultra high-res display sold by Apple. If they sold a 4K display for 2 grand I would certainly bite. Couple an awesome 4K display with 2 next gen video cards and you have yourself the best gaming machine ever built.

    I can't wait. :D

You are talking :apple: pricing, then times that by 2 if not 3 and that is what they would sell a 4K display to you for. Think again, its not going to happen anytime soon. All this buzz is going to leave a lot of people disappointed since this is a new display model and nothing more. People do not sit a few inches from they computer monitor, they sit at a distance where you can barely notice the pixels on screen. Some screen have a poor quality compared to others and I know I have seen TN, PVA and IPS screens over my lifetime. I would prefer a 30" replacement matte LED as I am presently in the market for one.

Apparently it's all TomTom, I found another site that said they were supposed to receive their shipment on the 17th as well and that the supplier has yet to update them.
    http://www.provantage.com/tomtom-9uob-017-00~ATOMT043.htm

This all seems like a huge foul up for TomTom. First they promise to release this thing months ago, and it's still not widely available. Now there are talks of google releasing a free navigation app. TomTom is going to miss some large amounts of revenue with this manufacturing miscue.

I will probably still buy the mount, which in my eyes, for $87 is a great value. I will definitely be waiting for a free google app though. If I could have purchased the mount two months ago I would have bought the app, silly TomTom.

For me it is very useful, especially contact, ical sync over air.

They could make it cheaper like 19$ at year or make some stuff like iPhone tracking a paid service.

ok, this is my proposal so we get going:
we temporarily split in two groups.
    round1 turn 1:
    a) appleguy (wilmer) and one or two more (ucf-rohn and aggie-rosius?) explore the start room
    b) moyank (beatrice), me (Loras), plutonius (Jorah) and maybe another one (eldiablo-dante?) split and move to the door to the top right, as suggested by beatrice. hopefully no monster there on round one, but if so 3-4 people should be enough to deal with it
    round1 turn2:
    - group a) joins group b) in the same room
    - group b) explores the second room for traps and treasure

I do not expect MacBook Pros because Intel Core 2 Duo for notebooks has not been announced yet.

What rock have you been hiding under? Merom!

All I want to see is a new Macbook Pro at the WWDC, couldn't care less about the Mac Pro or Leopard

Ok reading through this I see it is getting off track. The new release of Lion is good and stable, a few quirks but not bad, I am running it as my primary OS. Would be nice to see some intelligent posts on here in line with the topic.

It will be interesting to see if this makes it to the OS X App Store.
It installs various components into your system, so no, not until Apple modifies their guidelines.

Seeing how many things it does install and the size of the download, I wouldn't install this on any computer. Looks like FUDware to me.
