How utterly retarded does one have to be to get to the point where they put workstations on top of the desk instead of on the floor where they belong? Do you really need to put your Apple computer next to your overpriced, glossy Apple display to prove yourself?

miranda lambert acm dress.10.4.8 will be a necessary update for what's released tomorrow.
At least if one wishes to buy it and use it.So 10.4.8 will be out in the next couple of days.
Miranda+lambert+fat+at+I have a MBP now, but would consider upgrading if they offered some nice redesign goodies. I love the MB's magnetic latch, but i love the MBP's keyboard (especially the backlight, though when I bought it I thought I'd disable that feature). The design elements that Apple (in my opinion) has to include are the easily swappable HDD and RAM like in the MB. The feature that i would love to see, but probably won't, is and eSATA port instead of FW800. I guess now i just wait and see....

There's absolutely no reason for concern. It's not like Palm has any market share left to worry about.

I can't see Apple releasing an iDEN compatible phone ever. iDEN (Nextel) is going away by 2010 supposedly, and it'll be just the CDMA and GSM networks. Apple needs to either support both (like the Treo) or stick with GSM so they don't get locked into a single carrier. Cingular's good, but I want to use it with T-Mobile too. Lots of people on Verizon or Sprint want to as well, though it'll be trickier to do that, since the carriers have to make the ESN swaps and they don't want to do that to a phone they don't sell/support (read: make money off of). I do agree that the walkie-talkie function could potentially be used, but all the big networks have a version of it, and Cingular, T-Mobile, and Verizon's are all supposed to be made compatible before too much longer, whereas Sprint/Nextel is keeping both versions of theirs exclusive, which limits it's usefulness.

I bet that if Apple is making a phone, I would guess that they'd make it a GSM. I just see CDMA eventually going away. Sure CDMA has more subscribers (Sprint+Verizon=100M; Cingular+T-Mobile=75M) in the USA, but more in the world are GSM subscribers and I just see the norm having people carrying around their quad-band phones everywhere and working everywhere. Those are just my thoughts, though.
miranda-lambert-cma.jpgIt's not a "chintzy marketing ploy by Intel". It's a scientific test conducted by two Intel Marketing engineers which I always believe because Intel employees are honest people with families and friends who love them. :)
It's not scientific at all. No way in hell is it scientific. I should know, I'm a scientist, got a degree and everything.
I would expect Merom to show greater performance but with a similar battery life.
Unless.....Apple are bringing back the old modular battery compartments...
miranda lambert acm 2011It's still a QUAD at $2,124. Even if it's 2 GHz, that's still utterly insane, especially when a *single* 2 GHz Woodcrest outperforms a 3.5 GHz Pentium 4 easily IIRC.
That is information what I am waiting for before calling it lame or excellent...
Another problem IMHO is that you now must buy a Quad config, if you want 2 HD's or a good grfx card.
Many people will pay for the 3rd and 4th core without ever using it.
I think Apple could have done with a Dual Core config (Conroe) as low-end Mac Pro machine: give the buyer the expansibility of a Pro machine, but keep the price in a pro-sumer level.
I wonder how much faster the Quad 2.66 really is than a Quad 2.5 GHz G5. Something tells me that Apple is usually rather positive regarding the new machines.... ;)
Blake Shelton and MirandaHmm. This seems like a pass for me. I'll wait for Apple's offerings through MobileMe this year because I'll have the iPhone 4 or 5 on Verizon by the end of the year.
Then I can punt my piece of s*** Droid X to the curb. No more battery pulls and video that'll play NATIVELY ON THE DEVICE THAT RECORDED IT! Yes, the Droid X can't play it's own video back. Motorola's Droids Don't Do JACK.
Amazon's new service will be good, but just like its video streaming options, just a little too expensive. I'm sure it will be a great service for the Droids and the price will eventually go down. Maybe they should look into a data farm.

The new iCal is hideous. This "metaphor" crap is awful, and reeks of Mac OS 9. Make things look sleek and modern like the new Mail app, please.
Miranda Lambert ClothesI don't mind paying family mobileme account, but only one of my friends has mobileme and frankly I NEVER use iChat or other services to network because nobody is on mobileme... at least not my friends.
JOVANI 2011 COCKTAIL DRESSIF apple is not collecting the data, then what's the point of the file in the first place.
AGPS and it helps with tower switching while actually using the phone. Android has the same type of file (and likely other phones before it) for the same reasons. The only difference is that Apple left out a time based truncation feature.
Miranda Lambert at CMA 2615For any of these cloud-based services, what is the streaming bit-rate/SQ? What if you don't have a signal?
I have concerns about the agreement with Amazon, as other posters have wisely pointed out....I'm sure Apple's will be similar, if not better....time will tell...
miranda lambert cma awards.Capacity bump now, full update September(ish)?
Now in what way would that possibly make sense? Are you being serious or just plucking out of thin air?
miranda lambert cma awards. At a compression value I would accecpt, files will still be to big for the internet of today / average power of a computer today / the HD's of today.
People keep saying things like this. But look at online movie piracy. It's probably as big now as napster was a few years ago. The pirates have proven that people are interested in getting movies online, and that the technological barriers can be overcome.
Unless you have a progressive scan TV, which propbably means an HDTV, DVD is only 480i, which can be argued to be equivalent to 240p. That way Apple can easily claim their movies to be DVD quality at 320x240.
But would that look as good as DVD on NTSC television? Sure doesn't seem like it with the current downloads.

Is this the phone that all telemarketing firms are going to use, calling you up at random trying to sell you something you don't want? Say a Palm treo?

I wonder why Apple gives a hoot? This couldn't be hurting them could it?
It makes no difference. For starters, Toyota is violating the User Agreement. That in itself is grounds for immediate rejection. Second, it sends the wrong message. You want to do business with Apple, it has to be above-board. This should be obvious.

For the Holiday market they will want Merom in the high end (black) Macbook, if not all of them. That means Sept-Oct... Historically the iBook was updated in october... (see buyers guide...)
The difference between the MB & MBP is now the graphics card, screen size, expansion slot etc. With no 12" PB/MBP they can't afford to hold back the high end MB. If they are smart they will keep Yonah in the low end for a budget model, and Merom in the high end for pros who want a smaller & lighter laptop.
I'm guessing that's what the black MB is all about.
I'm also guessing there will not be a way to get the edu ipod deal with the new laptops, if apple's history is any indicator...
It is about time for the iMac and Mini's to update as well. It's a 64-bit marketing future for OSX and their sales of Leopard will suffer if the machines aren't out there to support this big new feature.
Come Nov. I'd say the Yonah will only be in the low end Mini and low end MB.

this event is going to be simulcast in LONDON. Does this mean that movies will be able to be purchased by folks in the UK???
Nope, it's just that Apple Europe have big offices in London and it's easier to get the Euro journalists to fly to London to cover an Apple event than fly em to California - and more effective than just sending the press release.
The last few Jobsnotes/events have been shown in London to a select audience (although used to be out at the BBC) but it's no guarantee that we'll get the services that are being pushed.

I'm glad Amazon rolled this out before Apple in the sense that I hope it pushes Apple to roll out a cloud subscription that handily beats Amazon's offering.
^ this
it is very good news that Amazon jumped into the water first. now it places the pressure on Apple. Apple will juice up their service (if it already wasn't) to top what Amazon is offering.

Anyone drop one of these in their cart and press order yet?
Someone on Ars has.
I am thinking about it.
Well it's certainly good to see new computers, but they really are aimed at high level tasks. These machines use server technology, rather than technology developed for the retail sector.
Interesting points I see are the use of ECC RAM (this is not at all unusual for servers, but very expensive because it's usually paid for by a company's server budget), and I didn't see any mention of onboard hardware RAID, which is a bit disappointing when you've got all of this other fancy stuff going on.
I'd also be interested to see, from an environmental perspective, how its power consumption levels compare with an equivalent consumer PC.
