derrick rose dunking on dragicI really hope that Apple sees trends like this and realizes it's time to change their game plan. No more once a year phones. Time to kick the innovation level up a few notches. Time for over the air OS updates, over the air app installs, wireless syncing and everything else Android has offered for some time now.

EDIT: The villain is done. ROUND THREE BEGINS NOW!

I'll get a MBP once Apple or someone else figures out how to make them work on an air flight. There is no Empower solution and the draw of 85w exceeds the juice (75w) that the seatside powerports provide. It's amazing this is even an issue in a "pro" line of portables - let alone from Apple. No 3rd party solutions solve this isssue.
This is a big issue for me also. I can't believe they havent released a air/auto power adapter yet for the magsafe power design.
APPLE WAKE UP!!! i want to upgrade from my powerbook, but need this!

We (the Mac community) should not let the security industry get a toe hold in OSX.
Fascinating. Organized anarchy.

Why put it in the App Store if it isn't an App?
Because it has a payment system and delivery system in place.
But it isn't an app. It's an OS upgrade.

Also, don't hold your breath for USB3 - as far as Apple's concerned, USB3 is a dead technology.
Last I heard, Apple was simply waiting for Intel to support it natively. Intel is going to support USB3 in it's next generation chipsets (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/superspeed-usb-usb3-panther-point,12061.html), and they've made it clear that they don't see USB3 as a direct competitor to Thunderbolt.

What's the possiblility of the new mbp being available in stores after the announcement? Is one usually required to order new products online or could I skip the wait by driving an hour to the nearest apple store?
Apple doesn't always have the product available in stores as soon as it's announced, despite that they (Steve) often says "available now." Ordering online or waiting for the store might be about the same amount of time. I know my apple store still didn't have the new ipods when I was in there yesterday, but they did have the new nano's.
derrick rose dunk on dragicNot like they don't already have OSX running on ARM in-house.
derrick rose dunk on dragic. My thoughts exactly. Our school district (ISD 482) just bought 1,465 iPads for its students, and I can see us getting really mad if Apple were to release a new iPad 6 mos. later.
WOAH.
that's a lot of iPads!
That'll take forever to deliver!
derrick rose dunk on dragic.x2, very lame move apple.
Have you seen those phones?
When I saw them I thought for second they were actual iPhones.

I didnt realize a release date was set:cool:
It wasn't. This is just a made up story.
In fact, I have it on good authority that there most definitely will not be an iPad 3 released until next year. It comes from the same person that makes this other stuff up.
Actually, given the supply constraints of just display parts (which impact all manufacturers), the popularity of the existing iPad 2 and the indications that Apple may start paying its suppliers more for parts to insure it can manufacture existing product, there is no reason for Apple to come out with an iPad 3 this year. That's just made up BS.

Good for Apple. They knew years ago they would be selling millions of iPads so they secured the supply. It pays to be a tech LEADER not a follower. Too bad so sad for all the companies whose tablets weren't conceived until the day after iPad 1 launch.
"Oh you want some LCD, sorry we're out. Apple bought our entire production three years ago."
derrick rose dunk on dragic.Wow! Tip of the hat to Apple and Intel. But why aren't the Blue Man on my TV selling the Core 2 Duo? Somebody tell them to put the LSD away and get to a studio.
And of course, nobody's talking about the elephant in the room. These new chips are SIXTY FOUR BIT BABY. Is 32-bit the new G4? Cuz we all know the G4 is the new G3.
64-bit OSX by the end of the year perhaps? With quadruple binaries to support the G4, the G5, the Core Duo, and the Core Duo 2? Or will Apple deny us our 64-bit freedom?
Fun fact: Derrick Rose onceNot sure what you guys think about this, but I think it would make sense on the iPhone if they somehow integrate iAds into it... otherwise I'm not sure why they would take a $99 service and make it free.
Because they aren't making any money off it now and making it free with iAds built in could bring in more profit for them?
It's the same reason Google can afford gmail with 8GB of storage for tens of millions of accounts.
Apple could make a bit of a profit integrating iWork/MobileMe/Lala along with iAds.
I get the feeling they are not really making any money on it, so it would make sense to give it away as a benefit of "using a mac."

I was about to say, "What?! And lose the Windows compatibility they bragged on so much with the Intel transition? You're kidding me!", then I remembered that Windows 8 is also rumored (confirmed?) to run on ARM.
Yes, Windows 8 will have ARM support (http://windows8news.com/2011/01/05/windows-8-arm-press-release-microsoft/).
I don't buy this rumor, though. It's too crazy.
And Apple would never do anything crazy?
Think different.

probably (75-85% sure) that they are fake.
Revenues are equal to zero if not associated with costs. Give us the profit figures. :D
From Wikipedia:
Samsung: Net income US$ 8.33 billion (2009)
Apple: Profit US$ 14.01 billion (FY 2010)
Apple's profits are higher but that's because they spend about $8 billion less on R&D than Samsung ;)
I dont think its going to be though the App Store. The only reason its thought he app store now is the minimise abuse.
Anyway, what happens if you whole hard drive dies?
What if you want to reinstall everything from scratch?
There is just too many what ifs
I think the should use USB flash drives rather then DVDs IF the flash drives are faster then the DVD
The app store is for apps and not for a whole OS
