They could, but that would be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Not at all. They can use those components for producing Galaxy devices. And they can use free Foxconn resources (since they would not be assembling iPhones anymore) for assembling. :D

That really is such a bad idea :(

Can you imagine the terrible usability in having a screen tilted on it's back and having to lift our arms up to do finger painting.

Who wants to cover their display with their hands?

lol both of you guys, its called the iPad... by the way Apple made it very clear that touchscreen laptops dont work well.

Well Apple doesn't sell its software for use on any other phones (or computers), so how is it competing with software-installed numbers on all hardware types?

Apple isn't forced to allow iOS only on their own devices.

Besides, Apple is doing the same thing with OS X, it's made for Macs only, and people have always been comparing their sales against Windows.

Seems to me you're just bitter about it.

Speak for yourself mate. It's easy enough to say that, but what happens if I go to a small client's site, and they're not on the case: I end up with a virus nestled on my hard disk. Then I end up going to a data centre, plugging in and... OOPS! The virus gets into the DC. I would be liable. I am insured, but it's easier to prevent than deal with the fallout. Additionally, as a security consultant, it might not look to competant, if you follow :)
If you're a security consultant, why are you not checking to make sure any network you receive files from is virus-protected? You're not going to get a Windows virus on your Mac simply by connecting to their network. You have to actually transfer an infected file onto your Mac.

One of the first things I tell my Windows clients is they need antivirus protection. I install and configure it for them, and run the first scan myself, to make sure their systems are clean. I do that before I ever receive files on my Mac from them. If you're not doing the same, why are you calling yourself a security consultant?

Nothing wrong with a good ol' bit of Ikea furniture...as long as you stick with the higher quality (I.E non particle board) stuff they are decent...minus the assembly instructions...they should be burnt!

    Those are instructions!? ;)

I think the reason why there is no new iphone this year is because maybe apple wants to come out with both at&t and verizone iphone at the same time next year. which would be less of a headache for both carrier and fans.

I can already see Phil sitting in the audience and then Job's cell phone rings..

    Jobs: um..excuse me a sec..Seems I have a phone call..
Pulls out this cool looking cell phone, flips it open and says hello?
Phil: Say Steve, can we have a chat real fast ? then starts up iChat on his iPhone..
Jobs: starts up iChat on his cell phone..

    The rest is history :D

i could see something like that happening

Lion this summer, iOS 5 this fall. Makes sense to me :)

I have predicted this from the moment Apple said Lion will be out this summer! There is NO WAY they could get them both done that fast!

I just forked over 750 dollars for an ipad 2 and ipad 3 is coming out? Ouch!!! I already want it.

sounds plausible, but i really don't see iPad 3 coming out any time this year. it's way too soon

Don't listen to the iPad 3 rumors. It is all FUD to try to slow iPad 2 sales!

A new ios update is like getiting a new device so i hope itis amazing and is a major revamp

What's going to happen is iPad 3 will be next year as normal, but before the holidays Apple will release iOS 5 and the iPad 2 will be like a brand new product again! I have predicted this for a long time now too!

Lion, iOS5, and the new MobileMe are going to bring continuous client features across all of Apple's products! :D And here's to hoping for apps on the Apple TV this fall too!!!

The question is when are they going to show off the new MobileMe??? The new data center was already supposed to go live and now they are saying spring. :(

How do you define a REAL tablet?

A thing the size of a notebook, with an open screen for handwriting...not just like a PDA or vPod.

I like this young geeky woman:

There is a new mnemonic featured in Danica McKellar's books Math Doesn't Suck[2] and Kiss My Math[3] that does address this very issue: "Pandas Eat: Mustard on Dumplings, and Apples with Spice." The intention being that Mustard and Dumplings is a "dinner course" and that Apples and Spice is a "dessert course." Then it becomes not a linear string of operations to do one after the other, but rather the "dinner course" operations are considered together and performed left to right, and then addition and subtraction are considered together, again performed again left to right.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

Maybe this will give Apple more time to devote to perfecting the Liquidmetal battery for the LTE release. If that is the case, I'm totally excited for the three month wait. It wil cause Droid sales to fall off a cliff when it's announced!

    palms os is severely outdated
the only thing they have going for them is the abundance of software out
i own a palm and will ditch it when something pda, osx feel comes from apple

if apple makes their phone centered on a PDA and Confrencing rather than
"its an ipod and a phone"
i think they will gain some substantial ground

having the ability to use the pda phone as an ipod would not be out of the question but solely a ipod phone ? i think they would be cutting their profits to a certain age group of potential buyers

Yeah exactly, I totally agree. I've never been turned on by the iPhone/iPod 2-in-1 rumours. To me, iLife integration and conferencing is way more important. I actually prefer they keep the two (iPod+iPhone) separate. I don't want my music listening to be disturbed by calls.

I was sharing this because I found it interesting, its supposed to be just 384MB shared. Just thinking if Lion enables more memory shared??

No it's doesn't. Snow Leopard also reports 512MB

I would say make it even smaller.

Mac Pro should be based on Mac mini, but with a choice of i7 or Xeon CPU, 6 user-serviceable memory slots, 2-3 expansion slots, and choice of 256 or 512 GB SSD. Complemented by multiple Thunderbolt port, external Superdrive, and Apple's own 5-bay DAS.

That ad should be pulled for one reason, it's ugly as sin.

Then pull 90% of themes from cydia... 75% of the wallpapers are some asian chick sitting on the hood of some car the users will never be able to afford. hahaha

It's not the AI PowerBook, it's the Al PowerBook. Big A little l, as in the chemical symbol for Aluminium. It replaced the one we call the TiBook or Titanium PowerBook.

They may change the look, they may not. Doesn't make it a bad computer - it's a dead-set ripper of a computer. Why are you so worried about how it looks?

it was a typo sir.. i know my elements :)

is kind of nice to have a newer look to if im getting another "Powerbook/MPB" i got my when i came to college and now i'm about to graduate, so getting totally different looking one would be nice. If not i'll just get an iMac. is time for me to get a new Mac any ways and i dont knw if i can wait till MW-Paris. btw is that near the end of september?

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.

You're missing something here.... The iPhone actually gets updates over its lifespan rather than promises of updates followed up by the requirement to buy a new phone in order to install the latest version of an open Android operating system on a closed manufacturer's phone. All-to-frequent updates make buyers feel like they have been tricked, especially when they cannot upgrade their phone to do the same things the new phones are doing because the manufacturer prevents it.

Not to mention that most folks have 2 year contracts and don't like to pay the penalty to upgrade early. The notion that 15 months between upgrades (not 18 months -- if you are counting June 2010 to September 2011) is not bad at all -- especially to the masses who are not early adopters. The iPhone 4 is still holding its own against the competition and its better than it was when it released because of software upgrades. It still does many things better than phones that have released since (like take better photos). Heck, I am still using my iPhone 3GS and I still love it because it gets new features every few months and has even improved on performance.

Do I think a dual-core 1Gz iPhone with 1GB of RAM would stack up better statistically against the competition? Yes. Do I think that phone will do more things and be faster? Yes. Do I think 3 months will matter all that much in the long run? No. If it means some vast improvements are coming (including LTE) -- then I am willing to wait 3 months.

I could believe this is you think back to the story last month about Apple being in the process of acquiring a company to revamp the notification system.

    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/11/apple-acquiring-ios-developer-to-revamp-notification-system/

4 months would be too steep to create/test a major change like that from scratch, so if the notification story is true (and the "no comment" from Boxcar in the original source makes me believe it is) it would strengthen the case for a Fall release.

Apple is devoid of morals and innovation? Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea of Apple's philanthropy? Also, Apple INVENTED the whole concept of touch UI for iPhone and iPad - now the rest of the industry is scrambling to catch up by copying the leader. While imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, the imitators are simply copying for free what took Apple years to develop at a likely cost of several hundred million dollars. And Apple does not have a right to protect its investment?

Apple should just buy Samsung. That will get them a big foot in the consumer electronics sector.
Wrong... Apple didn't invent the concept of the touch UI, they bought most of what they have and own very little rights to it.

My only dig: LTE = More $$$$

I'd rather use a solid HSPA+ device in June, than wait til September (or later) to use a device where my data plan could jump by $10.

I will only be excited for LTE if the data plans don't rise. I think it's ridiculous that every time a new cell technology comes out, cell companies raise their prices.
